190E Central Locking System/Slow to Unlock
The central locking system on our 1987 190E 16V intermittently delays a few seconds longer than the normal (immediate) in unlocking from either door and the trunk. Is this a sign that the central pump is beginning to fail? Given that this is an intermittent condition, any way to test?
If the central system fails, can a single door or trunk still be opened with the key? Thank you--Jim Herold |
I Think That Its In Its Late Stages Of Its Lifetime. There Is Really No Way To Test The Air Preasure That Comes Out In Order Top Pop The Doors And Trunk Open, But If It Dies On You Yes You Can Use The Key To Open The Front Two Doors And Also Open The Trunk.
B.t.w. If It Dies On You When Its Locked, It Will Also Lock The Fuel Door And You Will Have To Open It Manualy From The Trunk Behind The Right Trunk Wall.:d |
Many times the delay is caused by a vacuum leak in any of the lines going to the door locks. A slow leak means the pump has to run longer to get the locks to activate.
I'm not sure how to test to see if there is a leak - but if you do a search I'm sure theres info. |
