1996 S500 intermittent stalls..please help

Hello all!

I have a bit of a problem ....I just recently purchased a 1996 S500 w/ 122k on the clock. I love the car but occasionally when I am stopped in hot Arizona traffic (though this has happened both when the engine was cold and hot) it will just cut off! The car will restart without a problem but the minute I stop again at a light it will (occasionally) stop again.

My mechanic checked the fuel filter and said it looked fine. He also replaced the fuel pump relay (just in case) however the car still continues to do this.

The car drives great it does not sputter or hesitate it just simply cuts off when it gets ready (at idle)

The mechanic recommended that I take it to a Benz dealer so they can plug it up to some sort of machine that will discover if the wiring harness is the culprit. (which I pray is not the case) :)

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Please help me.....

Thanks

I'm not sure it would help but try:

1. Turn ignition on, but don't start the engine. After a few seconds you will hear noise from engine Throttle Actuator going full open.
2. Leave ignition ON for 1 minute.
3. Turn it OFF and wait 1 minute.
4. Start the engine and see if the problem gone

This recalibrates Throttle actuator full open/closed positions. Sometimes it might lose it's calibration if the battery was disconnected or dead.
