w126 seats
just wanted to post this as an information type post. i had some issues with my drivers seat, seat bottom spring was broken and leather back rest was worn at entry point, i had an extra passenger seat with good donor parts.
the leather drivers seat bottom, back and springs are interchangable with passenger side. so i was able to use the good passenger seat spring and the leather seat back to replace the worn items i had on driver side. the seat now feels new. all took about 2.5 hrs to change over, and was relatively easy. |

126 seat
Quote:
I have a 1987 300SDL and the drivers seat motor just died and my seat stuck too close to steering wheel, giving me less leg room. Thats why I searched and fould your pose more closer to my problem. I have another seat (both drivers and passengers seat) available from recycler that I wanted to remove the seat bottom and transfer to my non working one. How do I dismantle the seat bottom? I've unscrewed the bolts but the seat bottom will not come apart. Do you think passenger seat bottom can interchange with drivers? Thanks for your idea/suggestion... Patrick |

Driver's side seat - 300SDL - W126
My dirver's seat electric motor appears to go down south. Door switch has beed replaced and the seat lifts up/down, d/reclines but doesn't slide fore or aft. I suspect the motor gone dead.
I have access to a pair of color mismatched front seats of similar 126 models from recycler. Here are my thinking: 1. Get only the seat bottoms and interchange since the motors come with it. Will the passenger seat bottom interchange? 2. Get the motors and transplant on my current seat. Too complex (looking at it) 3. Just put on drivers seat from recycler and be done with it. (Color mismatch) If option #1 is preferable, How do I dismantle the seat bottoms? Thank you Patrick |

i don't recall exactly, but i do specifically remember try and keep the seats the same, meaning if yours have memory use a momory donor, and vice versa. i believe the '87 does have the memory feature. the motors are different, and the cables are different.

before you tear apart your seat for a bad motor, take a look at your door switches. I was having issues with mine, and giving all the door switch contacts a good scrubbing resolved them. just be careful taking apart the switch, it is full of tiny springs and ball bearings, mine exploded when i popped it open.

88 420 SEL seats moved to a 82 300SD
Id love to upgrade my 82 300 SDs front seats with those of a 88 420 SEL. My local junkyard has a splendid 88 with lumbar and memory. My 82 300SD has neither. I'm contemplating removing the 88 seats, track, wiring, and seat switch and transplanting to the 82.
Anyone know the issues I may be facing? |
