Evaporator Leak Verification in a W124
Hello,
I have an AC leak in my W124. I put some die in with a charge and can't find a leak. I know the evaporator is a big problem in the W125s. How do I verify it without tearing the dash off? Should I be able to see a leak if I take the blower motor cover off? Are there condensate drains that would have oil or die leaking out of them? Thanks, Jay |
It's unlikely you will see dye when pulling the blower motor. Portions of the evap can be inspected, but not everything. The most likely leak locations - solder points between the many copper elbows and the aluminum core - are not visible.
I suggest looking at the condensate. Wait until the performance of the system degrades, then take a look. You need enough dye to leak out to be detectable. - JimY |
