Swap W210 A/C Condenser into W126 ???
In my quest to improve the performance of the professionally-retrofitted R134A system in my 85 380SE, I may attempt to swap my condenser with the condenser from a W210 (which I have on hand). The A/C system on the W210 (1997 E320) was of course R134A so I'm guessing it is more efficiently tuned to work with that refrigerant than the existing W126 condenser which was designed for R12.
Is my thinking flawed? Will this work? Has anyone tried it? If the plumbing doesn't quite match up, any suggestions for modification? TIA |
I used this. http://www.acsource.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=129
The 210 condensor may be a good way, also. I really advise dry fitting the hoses and connectors in the car before crimping. ;) |
Just wanted to report back - the W210 condensor will not fit. It's too tall, even though preliminary measurements indicate that it *might* fit. Besides, the fitting configuration is totally different, though that can be accommodated with some judicious bending and perhaps one hose fabrication...
