is my Gasoline Engine really WEAK????

Dear!
I have Benz 230E Model 1984 (Gasoline) with 4 cylinders. http://www.pakwheels.com/ridedetails.asp?CarID=1277
Dear this vehicle is lying in my Garage since from last 2 weeks. Its not starting at all. I have shown to one of Mercedes mechanic. According to him its engine is weak. Compressions on all pistons are between 6 to 8 points (showing on the meter). According to that mechanic if the compression is below 9 points then Mercedes never starts.
Now I want to take your opinion based on expertise that whether really my car's engine is weak or they (my mechanic) just need money?
In fact I was surprised when he declared this thing because since from 2 weeks before my car was working perfectly without any white smoke from the silencer.
Is it really true that unless Gasoline car does not start giving white smoke from the Silencer then it means that engine is above 70% and there should not be any starting problem?
PLZ HELP ME OUT?????/

THANKS & REGARDS!
Tallat Hussain Ghazi

Tallat,

I can't help you, with thaqt problem but I looked at the car, what an exquisite beautiful Mercedes you have!!

Such a lovely combination of colors inside and out. You should be so proud of that car. Hope to hear you will be taking that "Black Stallion" for a ride very soon

What unit are these "Points" in? Atmospheres/bars? 6 atm is VERY low (88 PSI). If it just had arbitrary numbers on it, he's talking out of his ass. 9 atm is 132 PSI which does sound more like what it should be. You dont always get smoke from an exhaust if you have bad compression. You can have poor compression but no smoke due to bad valves, valve seats, or valve timing.

With only 40,000 Km it is not likely your engine is gone.
