Need instructions to replace W210 serpetine belt
Anyone have the destructions? I could not find on multiple searches.
Has anyone replaced the belt before and what difficulty rating? Any experience with Alldata or Repair CD? Thanks! |

There is no service manual for W210's on braingears.com

Look in the owners manual for your car. - technical data - engine size , etc. - Now go look at the W124 cars on braingears. There's a chance there may be cross-over. If so, the info there could very well apply to you. If not the 124, try another model.
If this doesn't work out, call the parts people at this forum and buy the CD for your MB. |
If its an E300D I can tell you, pretty much the same procedure you use on the 603. Never done one on an M112/113.
Usualy you just losen the tensioner, then with the fan and shroud out of the way work the old belt off. Then work the new belt on, tighten the tensioner, and install everything you removed. Make sure to check the idler pully when you have the belt off. The tend to wear quickly. |
Attached is a belt diagram of a W210 99 Turbo Diesel (606.962).
I was able to fish the old belt in and out from the top w/o removing anything. Tied a 6' piece of twine to the belt before i started (tied the other end to something i could reach easily up top) and after positioning around all pulleys used the twine to pull the belt through the tight space between the harmonic balancer and tensioner. Took 15 minutes. |
if it's a V6 M112 engine it's easy. There is a spring loaded tensioner pulley whcih needs rotated counterclockwise. Belt just slips off. The pulley is spring loaded so there is nothing to tighten.

Easier to help if you tell us which engine you've got !!!!!:)

This any help? Same as V6 basically as described earlier.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...plus/1belt.jpg The bit you turn is on the end of the tensioner pulley bolt which is a torx type bolt. You may be able to loosen it by using a 15mm spanner on the securing nut itself, as I did. |
Digging up an old thread...
So I bought a secure/tamper resistant torx bit, and was trying to loosen the serpentine belt pulley but all I managed to do was remove the secure torx screw/washer. This is the screw which is in the middle of the tensioner pulley - am I correct? Looking at the screw, there is a tiny little bit of blue thread lock - did the QA folks just miss my screw and it came out or am I loosening the wrong screw? |
if this is on your '02, then there should be a 17mm hex 'molded' into the tensioner itself, just below the pulley.

Thanks - that did the trick!
