Oil light stays on

The low oil light came on shortly after changing oil. The dip stick indicates proper oil level, is there something that needs to be reset or should I wait untill the next change and clean the oil level sensor?

Thanks

Next time you change oil remove the sensor and test, there are posts which describe how to do test the sensor. I had a similar issue, the electrical connection was good so I removed the sensor and cleaned it which resolved the problem.

fcffab, you didn't mention what year and model MB you own. It's likely the oil level sensor is bad. Remove/replace it at the next oil change. I just replaced the oil level sensor in our 1995 E320.

It could also just need a good cleaning. The float probably got stuck in the down position when you drained the oil. Taking it out and cleaning it with carb cleaner may alleviate the problem.

Be sure to have a new O-ring on hand before you attempt to remove the sender. Otherwise you might wind up cursing a lot.

This was addressed in another thread recently.

Need to know your year and model to know which type of sensor you have.

Quite possible it is overfilled rather than underfilled.
