Odometer stopped working!
I just noticed it yesterday when I was on my way to a friend's house. Before I left I looked at the trip meter and saw that it was at xxx, later I looked at it and noticed it was still xxx. I reset it with hopes that it would "loosen" or unstuck the cog wheels but to no avail. The odometer crapped out at around 107k. Is this a common problem? Easy fix? Worth fixing? Grrrr. Car is a '90 190E 2.6.

If it is a mechanical odometer then it is. Try resetting your trip odo and see if the main odometer works for awhile. What happens is the main gear on the odo shaft slips. I have repaired several but if you are not real mechanically inclined, I would have it fixed at a speedo shop. You can save SOME $$ maybe by removing the cluster yourself then taking it to the shop.

on a scale of 1-10 this repair is about a three.not really complicated but patience is a must and a steady hand helps also. |
