power steering noise
I have a 1985 280SL (Euro), car runs great and no big problems, 136k miles. I am getting a noise from the power steering when the car is warm and I turn at low speed. The noise is a low hum, like the fluid is low or the pump is slipping, and I don't hear it when the car is cold. No visible leaks, fluid level is correct, belt tension and condition are good. The fluid is probably dirty (dark color but relatively clear). Overall the car has been well maintained prior to my ownership, I recently did the brakes and flushed the brake system and man was it dirty. I suspect the PS system needs a good flush. Anyone concur with this diagnosis? Also does this PS system have a filter to replace? Or perhaps the PS pump has reached the end of its life?
Since this is a Euro model I am using a W107 body manual and a M110 engine manual, sometimes all the components are not all the same as my car. Thanks for the help! |
Replace filter and fluid.
I was having the same problems, and the filter came out in three peices. |
