C240 newbie . . .

Hi all,

My wife *****ed & belly-ached until I bought her a Mercedes; a 2002 C-240 with 29k miles.

I dont even have the registration yet and its overheating.

I have an Auto X ray 4000 OBD2 code reader, but it will not give a code. WTF!, I though all auto manufacturer's had to be OBD2 compliant after 1996?

1. The cooling fan is not spinning and it appears that it has a sophisticaed motor controller; can anyone comment about these? Any basic troubleshooting proceedures?

2. I was looking at the engine specs and Mercedes recommends synthetic and specifies that API grade SH or better is required. Does it really have to be synthetic? API grade SL petroleum based oil is available; I have had bad experiences with synthetic in the past.

Thanks in advance for your comments.
