If you really can't afford to have work like this done professionally (even a Goodyear, etc), you should have the mechanic you trust most do it - that is, you. The problem of completely unskilled people f$@# with your car is not unique to Jiffy-lube. In the 80's a friend got a new oil pan on her newish BMW after the missle scientists at a (now-defunct) quick-change place stripped the threads out of the pan.
