Cool 1974 450 se rebuild

I'm new to the Mercedes community but I have to say it is turning out to be a fun project. I have a 1974 450 se with a 276 V8 and I have been fixing all kinds of little problems. I am looking for some kind of manual or guide that can help describe the inner workinngs in better detail than the Chilton manual I have been using. Currently I am having trouble getting the brake lights to work. I have removed the circuit board from the taillight assembly and repaired some of the circuits that have been corroded and I still cannot get any lights. I have been trying to locate the brake light switch on the brake pedal but so far I can't figure out where it is. All I see is a boot surrounding the whole assembly but no wires coming out of it. If anyone has any information or is interested in taking over my project I would appreciate your response. This car is straight and fully intact with 69,000 miles. Thank you, Ryan

Welcome to the crazy farm .

There are two brake switches on the master cylinder...have a white plastic dohickee holding the 2 red/white ? wires..some have three wires per switch...they unscrew and VW bug ones fit.

If you short the wires together on the one switch the brake lights should light up.......if not......fuse or bad ground is usual problem....the switches get to the point where you have to push hard on the pedal to get them to operate....'corse, I could be wrong
