89 190E problems

Hello all. I just bought a 1989 190E 2.6. I was initially nervous about buying this car (i'm a volvo person) and I have a few problems with it that's making me even more anxious...
1. I noticed ever since summer has been here, the car tends to run really hot in traffic but stay at around 80 when on the highway. It hasn't overheated yet but it came really close one day. However, that day, I got to my destination before it did so I don't really know if it would have kept going or if it would have stayed at the area right below the red. Haha, It's really affecting my lifestyle because now i'm afraid to drive to high traffic places that i used to go to.
2. idles rough when started cold. Then when i start to drive and i get a little hesitation and after a few seconds it seems to "kick" back to normality. When the car is hot, i never get this problem when i start.
3. I get a check engine light when i start the car hot (never after a cold start). Always after 2 or more starts in the day. It always turns off after about 2 minutes of driving.

Thanks for any help you can give!!

The Car Is Design To Look Like Its Running Hot, It Not. I Had To Get Used To My Frist Merc Too. Normally What Everyone Dose Is Turn On There A/c,it Help The Temp Issue By Activating The Aux Fan When It Reaches About 100 As Well As The Temp Fan For The Engine. Hope This Helps, Have Fun.lol

I have one that runs in the low 80's.... the CE...and one that runs in the high 80's low 90's ... the E....

both seem to run just fine regardless of what the temp gauge says.... maybe one has a cleaner radiator... don't know...

both have mb formulated coolant (zerex)
