Theory on radio and windows
My radio and windows stopped working after I jump started my 1994 e320.
The red light on the radio blinks but even when the car is running none of the windows work and the radio will not come on. Everything else works just fine; wipers, lights, interior lights, etc.. The reason the battery was dead was that the radio did not turn off when the car was shutoff and the key taken out. My theory is that the ignition is malfunctioning, the radio and windows don't seem to "know" that the key is on. I visually checked all of the fuses I could find underhood and didn't see any blown fuses. However, the blinking red light on the radio tells me it's got power which makes me wonder if the jump start tripped an anti-theft device for the radio. But that doesn't explain the windows. So perhaps the jump start fried something that was supplying power to the windows and the radio anti-theft device was tripped. Wow, I must be overthinking this. |
I believe there is a code to reset the radio. This happened on my 1991 300E,I went to the dealer showed my title & regisration. They looked up the code in their computer. I entered it into the radio, problem solved.

There is a contact bridge or resistor near the fusebox on my 300E. Check that if your model has one.See my Thead dated 7-16-2006 (with photos).Carson saved my day. Good Luck!

The strange thing is that the radio is not asking for a code.
I thought when the battery went dead and I got a new one, the radio should say code on it or have something on the display. The radio shows nothing at all though, just a blinking red light near the volume dial. I tried entering the radio code anyways and got nothing. I also tried re-sync'ing the windows, nothing. I'm not so convinced it's in the ignition because the other components work when keyed on but I suppose it's still a possibility. I'm thinking perhaps relay/solenoid or a fuse I missed. I'm not sure if there's a fuse that controls all the windows and the radio though. |
I would double check fuse 2 and 9 and replace them to test. Also - if the radio is blinking the red light have you tried to turn it on? Push the volume switch in to turn it on.

I had some weird stuff happen to the alarm system once, that caused the radio not to work. Somehow, I think the two might be related.
Once you are out of the car, and you lock the door, keep pressure on the key while in the locking position (in other words, don't let the key spring back to its normal position)...hold it for a few seconds longer, and see if your windows roll up, and your sunroof closes (open any of them if you can). Also, see if you can "make" the alarm go off somehow...maybe have someone sit inside, while you lock it, and then have them open the door. Just an idea on my part...one that doesn't involve any money anyway. :) |

To answer your question, yes, I think I've pushed every button on the radio at least once :D and still nothing is displayed on the screen nor does the radio turn on. |

My friend set off the alarm by accident and it did not have an effect on the windows or radio. |
