1987 190E A/C ($%&$ Climate Control?)
I just picked up this sweet, garaged 1 owner, 1987 190E 2.3. with 137,000 miles on her. The blower switch was broken so I replaced it. I had the A/C recharged and it blew so nice and cold during these recent 95+ degrees days in NC. Well, a couple of days ago the A/C wouldn't kick on. By that, I mean, when I set the climate to MIN the compressor doesn't seem to engage. You can hear the vent redirect behind the dash when I press the snowflake but that's it. I checked the fuse and it appears to be OK, fairly new... a 30000 mile service had been done by the previous owner 3 months ago. But, I couldn't get the fuse out to just blindly replace it. What should I look at next? What is the likely culprit in such a works-great-doesn't-work-at-all scenario? Any diagnostic things I can do would be greatly appreciated. I used to take my Benz to a super mechanic but with downsizing I no longer can afford to use him.
Thanks in advance all! |
