I have a 1985 190E that is experiencing a clunking/squeaking from the front passenger door. The noise occurs when accelerating, braking, and going over large bumps. I have successfully "removed" the sound by partially unlatching the door. I have removed the door panel, the door holder (retaining strap), and plastic sill plate and still the sound is present. I can usually replicate the sound by pressing down on the door while it's latched. Therefore, I believe the sound is being generated by the door latch/locking mechanism. Can anyone confirm or refute this? If the latch is the source, is there a fix or adjustment to remove this annoying noise?
Thanks, Sean |
