This was actually posted for my father, who is currently driving Dallas to Chicago. He was having issues with the car, and removed the voltage regulator. Now the car is running excellent. He is just trying to get it home, and then will replace it.

Do you think this will fry the alternator or wiring harness? This will only be for 700 miles or so.

with the regulator removed the alternator output will be uncontrolled and will charge the battery at about twenty volts. this will ruin the battery. any electrical device on the car will be at risk, bulbs, fan motors, radio, relays, etc.

Yea, that's what I was thinking...un controlled juice to Everything...could get VERY expensive.

I always keep a cheap spare voltage reg in all my cars....JIC..:)

He just bought the car today and is driving it home. Wasn't even sure if he was going to take it

Just got a call, alternator went out. Luckily the local parts store had one in stock...
