One of the best investments in the car you can make
The euro lights look AWESOME on the W124, especially compared to the US DOT ones. I remember seeing them for the first time, crossing the street in Lima Peru, on a 220CE, what a sight.
You'll be amazed at the beam pattern they throw out once they are adjusted, those things REALLY get the job done. It's really a shame the DOT mandated headlights were forced on the US buyers. That's what you get when you have lawyers designing cars, and GOVERNMENT lawyers at that. The box the Euro lights comes in says "For OFF ROAD use only" Feh |
Those damned government lawyers...a pox on them. May they never be allowed to drive, much less own, a Benz.

Er...guess you don't need 500E euro-lites now.
Get yourself an 8mm socket 1/4 inch drive. remove the turn signal (2 plastic clips release it so it slides out to the front), remove the 8mm bolts (or screws if you want to call them that) you see that the signal covers on that side, also, you need to remove the under headlite panel, another 2 8mm bolts. Take out the round black connector on the top of the radiator support. Last bolt is tough, next to the electric fans inboard of the lites. Should take about 1/2 hour each side total....pretty easy IMO (except for those inboard bolts). If your bolts are rusty, get a new 'headlite screw kit' ...about $7.50 and has all the associated headlite bolts, clips, etc. Do you have the correct pin connectors for the euro-lites? You'll need them. Hope this gets you going. |
And typically you will remove the headlight wipers. Then, unless you intend to spend big bucks for wipers that will work with your new lights, you will need to purchase new underlight fascia pieces and have them painted.
The old ones will have the ugly hole where the wiper shaft originally came through. Also, if you intend to run anything higher the typical 55 /65 bulbs, then it would be smart to do the wiring using relays. All this is documented fairly heavily in the various lists. Personally, I originally installed the Bosch units with the vacuum height adjustment on a '90 300E. When I traded that one for a '92 Sportline, I made them agree to let me swap out the lights. Did it right on their lot. Currently running 100/130 which is sometimes a little too much light. Think best might be 80/100. Steve |
