Can someone please tell me how a guy is supposed to get at the transmission modulator valve on a 1990 190E 2.6
That baby is way up in there in no man's land. I need to replace the vacuum line to it and I was hoping to replace the valve itself but I don't see it coming out unless the transmission comes out! Supposedly you can adjust the valve by simple removong the cover and twisting the valve adjust key and replacing the cover...I can't see how anyone could do this in the small space given.
Please help.

Replaced 25+ in this model alone! Exhaust system & rear support for trans must come loose. Also very short allen socket & long 1/4" drive flex ratchet.

come loose...

does the transmission rear mount just need to come loose and down a bit and over to get some clearance or does it actualy require more than that? Will just unbolting the rear trans support ( and exhaust) give me enough room or will it require more?

adjustments

Quick question...
this vac modulator has to be adjusted right...it didn't come in the mail at teh correct adjustment I am sure.
So I won't know if it is in adjustment til I put it all together and drive it and feel the trans shifts right. SO if it is so difficult to get at and then you have to adjust it am I reading this wrong or will I have to go through the entire time consuming process of moving transmission and removing exhaust just to djust this stupid thing!
Please tell me it isn't so!
Help oh mighty tech gods!

Just asking if you got your questions answered on this topic. I know there is no room to do anything between the tunnel and tranny on this car. I'm still contemplating changing the nylon bushing on my shifter linkage under there.

well, not really...but

Ya, I didn't really get the answers I was looking for...I still don't know how to really get at the modulator, or adjust it...however...I was anxious to get rid of the shift slam so I did some messing around with it. I replaced the vac line to it and took the cap off the new modulator and put it in the existing one...there is barely enough room to do all this and while laying on your back no less. Anyhow, it cleaned up the shifts immediately! Vac leak was the problem.
My advice to you...those bushings are going to be burried in there! If they are not completely shot...spend the time waxing it and enjoy the ride!..Wait till you need new motor mounts, do the trans mount and the bushings all at the same time. I always plan several jobs at once to save my sanity...if something it out and parts are cheap do it then..rather that do it twice.
