Ambient temperature read out

1994 e320 Coupe Sportline
My in dash readout has not worked since I purchased the car 2 years ago.
all of a sudden it starts to show the temperature when car is first started visible for maybe 5 seconds then goes blank.
when it is on it looks great LCD is clear no black spots.
any suggestions where the loose connection may be located?
I receintly purchased a new cable with temp. probe but have not attemped to install it yet
When i take the screws out of the fuse box to get at the cable connection shoud i disconnect the battery first?
thanks in advance

Somebody have said that there is a connection to the speedsensor that cuts in at a certain speed, maybe this happens after your 5 seconds? Try and not drive for a minute and see what happens. At MB they seems to have no clou if this connection exists, but my meter goes down exactly 10 degrees when the car comes up to speed. But not always...?!

About the battery, there should be OK to lift the fuse part without disconnecting.

no, I think it's the actual LCD Display itself. I had the same exact problem with my 95 e320, temp. would show -25f (I had the temperature sensor removed to make sure where the problem was located). I then plugged the sensor back in and the reading was off by like 10 degrees. I took out the instrument scluster and replaced in a new LCD display and viola. Are you sure it's not the sensor?

is there a way to know where the problem is? My lcd display says +136F virtually all the time, but goes blank or drops to +127F at times. It worked fine last winter, but now it's just goofed up.:silly:

your temperature sensor that goes beneath the bumper might be shot.
