Question on oil?

I saw this Shell Rotella 5w40 full synthetic oil at very reasonable price in Walmart. Is this oil any good for 1995 E320? Anyone knows anything about this oil? Please let me know. Thanks

With that vintage engine you're better off with a 15W40 oil or Mobil1 15W50. Check the chart in the back of your Owner's Manual.

Imho

To my knowledge this oil exceeds every spec for your '95 engine.

Just about any 100% synthetic 5W-40 is a very fine oil. Especially an HDEO.

IMHO. Cheers!

The local MB dealers in Southeastern PA used Quaker State 15W40 mineral oil for that vintage engine. That was before MBUSA switched and used Mobil 1 as the factory fill around 2000. Mobil 1 0W40 is the factory fill for all new MB vehicles now. FWIW I use Mobil 1 15W50 in our 1991, 1992 and 1998 Mercedes year round.

5W-40 is a good grade of oil. Unfortunately, sometimes it's hard to find enough of it locally on the shelves.

That is a damn good oil! I use it in the winter. Someone also did an oil analysis of it with excellent results at 5k (can't remember which forum I read it). Hard to believe or beat a synthetic diesel/gasoline oil for $12 a gallon. Great for these old engines! :)

X2.

The Shell Rotella syn will be just fine and is value-priced.

Enjoy.

Will try it out

Thanks all. I am going to try it out. My manual said 5w40 has best temp range in cold and hot weather. Much wider range than other grade. I will get Shell Roteela T today.

Let us know what you think. Coincidentally I dropped by WalMart earlier this week in prep for an oil change and was disappointed to see they didn't have enough Mobil 1 0W40 or 15W50 for an oil change, so came pretty close to buying a couple gallons of Rotella T. Think I'll give it a try!
