I just bought two new Bilstein shocks for the rear of my 300SD. Would be okay to install Boge shocks on the front?

Why would you do that?
Bilsteins are the better shock, and last longer, too. Plus, you already have them on the back, why not match the front? A large part of the job will be labor costs. You may save a few bucks on the Boges, but in the long run I don't think its worth it. |
More importantly
The two shocks will have differing rebound/compression characteristics, which in emergency situations, or even in daily driving may be unpredictable.
I'd stick with the Bilsteins also on all four corners. Check out Carparts.com for some good prices, or also with shox.com. |
I was just wondering if it WOULD make a difference! I'm able to install them myself so labor costs are not an issue. I'm just looking for everyones thoughts! I guess it would be best to keep everything original. If Mercedes Benz chose Bilstein, why change it :D

Have seen many new Benzes equipted with both Boge & Bilstein on the same car from factory!! However the aftermarket BOGE shocks can be = to OE but they supply a lower grade shock many times! Bilstien is now offering a "lower" cost replacement as well. In other words aftermarket isn't always = to OE!

What about putting Bilstein comforts on the front and HDs on the back ? Would this work too ?

Ride height is a function of the spring, not the shock. So altering the shock composition (ie, hard in back, soft in front) won't cause the rear to sit any higher.
However, some shocks, including bilsteins, have adjustable spring perches. Whereby the spring seat can be raised a few mm's or lowered to help fine tune a ride height. Unfotunately, this only applies to cars with coil over suspensions, and Mercedes don't usually qualify. |
I'm going to stick with Bilstein's in the front to match what's in the back.
