If your SRS (secondary restraint system) light remains on it means you have a fault in the system which controls the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners. When the light is on the system is inactive so you should have the codes read to find the problem and have it remedied as soon as possible.

On my car, I broke the cord under the seat. Now my SRS light comes on and stay's on for 20 seconds and dissapears. Is my airbag system inactive aswell?

Thanks

My SRS light was due to a faulty "horn contact ring". It sits on the undeside of the steering wheel. No outward appearance of failure but I was relatively certain that this was the problem. My intermittent SRS light sometimes coincided with the turning of the steering wheel. I first replaced the much cheaper brushes to no effect. You might check all your seat belt connections first.

trueog,
If your SRS light goes out after a period ; usually 2 minutes ; it means that there is a non-critical fault and the SRS system is still operating.
If you broke the cable under the seat and repaired it ,the system has recorded a fault code and you should have it cleared but it's not urgent.

Thanks for the response. I broke the cable off the connectors, and can't find those connector's now. I'm afraid what the dealer will charge me if i take it in. Does anyone know where i can by the connectors so i can plug the wire back in under my seat?...thanks

SRS lite can be a number of thing....most common : Batt+ power failure. Then....Short to ground. Clock spring ( cassette.) causing an open. Poor/bad ground. Fault in SRS sensor/s.

You'll need OBDII port or underhood adaptor/scanner to read them or one of the generic scanners.........Please don't go to AutoZone for a 'free' code reading.

Have had a few cars with ECU problems ( One with bent OBD port pins. ) after a visit there.

I think our local MB dealer charges $100.00 per, and I'm told, they then won't tell you the codes.
