95 S280 electric fuel pump toast?

we have an 95 s280, it refused to start the other day, anyway... the diagnosis was a failing fuel pump... coz it started when we tapped on the fuel pump assembly underneath, near the right passenger area...

so... is this a sure sign of pump failure OR just relay trouble? how do i isolate the problem?

these symptoms indicate the presence of a fluctating feild warp in the outer corona of reigel 7. i suggest replacing the pump and making sure the connections are clean and tight
