1996 C220 computer/electrical issue

I bought the car in 2003 and ran perfectly for first 2 years after which the wiring harness corroded and had to be changed. Ever since, my car hesitates to start, and once it does, it seems to misfire on idle and is very jumpy, and usually shuts off after a short time. This only occurs on idle, though.

According to my mechanic, the car's central computer was damaged by short circuit when the wiring harness broke, but he's not entirely sure yet. What else could I have him check? Maybe the injection system?

Anyone have any ideas? I'm praying it's not the computer.

Thanks

Assuming the basics' have been thoroughly checked, a few things come to mind. I've replaced many engine harnesses and I've NEVER seen an engine control module damaged due to shorted wiring. That doesn't mean it can't happen, it just means I've never seen it. One thing I have seen several times are Air Mass Sensors that have been damaged by short circuits. This can cause the symptoms you describe. Before you buy an Air Mass Sensor though, follow ronald_m's advice. Also, don't forget to check the fuel pressure regulator. Good luck
