Dash lights
 

I noticed that some of my dash lights are out on my 83 SL 380. The gauge that holds the fuel gauge, as well as some of the switches (antenna switch etc) seem to be out. What is the best way to get to the bulbs?

For the gauges, you need to remove the steering wheel and then the instrument cluster as an assembly, then it's easy. The switches I MAY be wrong on, but I think behind the radio is a single bulb that is in a housing with fiber optics lines coming off of it, and the optic lines light the switches. What bothers me is all the switches that light up should be affected, although I don't think all of them are lit, so I may be on to something. Maybe post this in the SL forum as well.

Are special tools required to remove the steering wheel? How is it removed?

Remove the horn pad, then a big allen head bolt under the horn pad and it's off. I am assuming no airbag on a 380, right? No special tools, nothing you can't buy at Sears for example.
