96 E320 Check Eng Light - Engine Electronics

The CEL came on in my 96 E320, and the words "Engine Electronics" are displayed in the instrument cluster. Can someone tell me where the OBDII connector is located? Also, can someone give me a suggestion on a reasonably priced OBDII scanner? Will I need any special kind of Adapter to connect to the OBDII plug? Looking for scanner that can read the code and clear it also.

Thanks much.

Under the dash by your left knee. I believe the port is a standard size under OBDII protocols.

Thanks much. Any suggestions on a scanner ... I'm strictly DYI, shade tree mechanic ...

I bought one at autozone for $100+ 2 years ago....hear now they are $40-50. Anything OBDII compliant is good to read and clear the normal codes.

It will not access trans and numerous other modules MB has. That apparently costs close to $10K.

Got it ... can you take a quick look at the setup on this web page:

Seems like a nice setup to me, I can use my notebook computer ... what do you think?

I am far from an expert on the matter. I suspect there would remain many proprietary MB modules that it would not access.

I know for a fact that the SRS system cannot be accessed using anything but a computer capable of Mercedes diagnostics; the SRS light can't even be reset.

Thanks much ...

Ok ... got it. I know what to do now. Case Closed. Thank you.
