1989 300E start up problem
 

First off I would like to thank everyone with the help of installing my new water pump and tensioner this past week. The install was no problem with your help.

No the problem. I posted this prblem before.

When the car is cold I have a rough idle (the RMPs are around 500 and the car shakes and stalls. After the car has been driven for a couple a minutes the car idles excellent and the car drives amazing.

I have already changed:

water temp sensor, dist cap, dist rotor, spark plugs, fuel filter, 2 fuel pumps, fuel accumulator, air filter.

The ignition wires a 4 years old. I think they are still in good shape but how do I test them just to make sure?

I was thinking of doing a throttle body cleaning to see if that would be some help.

I was woundering if this could be a fuel injection problem, idle control valve, fuel pressure regulator or cold start valve? Also is there a throttle positioning sensor in the car and if so could that cause me problem?

I have had this problem for about 8 months and it is just getting worse.

Of course cleaning the idle valve would be my first step.

Then the "differential" fuel pressure test would be the next. making sure that the lower chamber fuel pressure was correct when cold. Current flow to the EHA must correspond to the differential pressure as well

I have not had a chance yet to clean the idle vavle. I am going to work on it this week end but I still do not know where it is located or what it loocks like. Also what should I use to clean it.

under the air cleaner , held in place by a rubber doughnut and looking straight at you > it is an Alum. Cylinder with a two prong electrical connector that has two small "arms" connected to rubber lines (a good time to make sure there are no cracks in the rubber - it tends to dry with heat/time. if so, replace rubber).
Remove valve (remember position)and clean with brake or carb cleaner. You clean by spraying inside with cleaner and giving the valve a good shake around. repeat a couple times until no more dirty fluid is coming out the other end.
