W124 1995 E420 Coolant expansion tank

Maybe a daft question, but I removed the two nuts that are holding the expansion tank in place and I still can't remove the tank. From what I can tell the tank is still being held at its underside. What do I have to do to take the expansion tank out?

Give it a good yank ! There a plastic foot on the bottom of the tank that goes thru a rubber grommet on the shock tower.

I did this job a few days ago. Rubber grommet is probably just binding to the tank from years of crud. Like Jim's500E said, just hook up a tow truck and PULL.

Yep, not sure which way the foot goes into the grommet; tilting it (I think) towards the motor , or vice versa, is the right way to pull it out. For sure there will be crud all up in it too.

You can see the little foot thru the passenger wheel well.

This is going around. I did mine last weekend. Tilt toward the engine. You have to force it to pop out while kind of rubbing against the studs on the left side.

Putting the new one is easier. I had to switch the rubber grommet to the new tank, then the foot pops in easily and the screwholes go over the posts.
