CLK 55 Alternator replacement
Anyone have any advice on alternator replacement on a CLK 55 Cab? I plan on attempting it today. Anyone know of any short-cuts ;) or "beware of's"?:dizzy2:

not too difficult. just be sure to disconnect the battery first ;)
You can do the whole thing with the car on the ground, although it may be easier to get at the wires from underneath. use a prybar to pop the guide shims back before you put the new one in. Did you already try just a voltage regulator? there's a recall on those things... |
Voltage regulator
Thanks for the tip, I didn't know that. I put an amp meter on the battery and it is drawing not charging, so I figured the altenator is bad... I Didn't even think of the volt reg.

Definitly try the voltage regulator. Be careful pressing on the bushings with a prybar, I have seen two broken timing covers because of this. I use a 19mm socket with a long bolt and a nut to draw the bushing back. You put the socket over the busing from the front, then put the bolt through the middle of the socket to make a puller.

Hey, if you need one, I have an extra one here brand new, but just to be sure, get me your VIN or part number for the regulator to see if it matches what I have. mine is 003 154 51 06
