2002 S500 problem locking and unlocking doors
For the past 2 weeks i have been having problems locking an unlocking the doors of my car usind the remote control key. First was an infrequent problem but when it happends if I waited for about 10 seconds and try to lock the doors again it will work fine. Now is almost constant, and is rare the ocation when the remote control will work. I try new batteries on the remote and try the second key too with no luck. Any ideas?

had a similar problem with my 2002 C-class
Think SDS + CANbus = O.K. - 450 Basically the dealer uses their SDS (star diagnostic system ) to key on on the offending control unit in the network. The labor and unit cost me $450. |

Thanks, I'll make an appointment Tuesday. Do you have an idea why it happens?

I've heard an estimate that on many electronic production lines as many as 3-5 percent of components are defective. Additionally cars can be a harsh environment with temp changes and vibrations. Or maybe even a software issue that techs find easier to change out component rather then reprogram - but I doubt that.
On my 2002 car one of my Smart Key's had a grey plastic piece (located where the battery tray is found when the access panel is removed) was molded a tiny bit too thick. The thickness prohibited the buttons from making proper contact when pressed and resulted in intermittent working of the door locks when that key was used. I broke off a small tab on the grey plastic piece myself and the key now works flawlessly. But you said both your keys won't working. |
That's wright, for example today the locks are working OK but maybe tomorrow they won't...
