amateur mistake, timing mark needed clarif.
 

!983 380 sl. Removed the distributor and after it moved on me now I;m not sure which is the top 1 cyl indication on the distributor lip, I see the single line notched on the lip but can't remember for sure if that is the indication that has to match the rotor.
I have the crank pulley marks matching but need help determining where the rotor and the dist need to be?

As you probably know the O|T mark on the balancer is #1 TDC. Look at the dizzy cap and find #1 plug wire (front cyl on the passenger side). The rotor should match where ever that plug wire is on the cap. I think you are right, I think there is a small line on the top lip of the dizzy itself which will match up with that plug wire position, not sure though. The rotor will "spin" a bit as you move the dizzy into position, make sure you get it lined up when the dizzy is down all the way in, may have to try a couple times to get it right.

Thanks Gilly, is it possible for the rotor to be pointing 180 degrees away from the 1 tdc mark on the dizzy and correctly on the balancer?
Does a full turn on the crank equals to 1 full turn on the dizzy?:confused:

Yes you can drop it into any position, 180 degrees no sweat. Common mistake. Dizzy rotates 1/2 for every crankshaft rev, just like the camshaft.
