79 300cd no reverse

hi all. i'm new to the forum. i've recently bought a 1979 300cd with 150k. everything seems to work fine except reverse. i've heard people speak of vacuum issues, i may be blind, but i can't find a vacuum line to this trans anywhere. anyone ever experienced anything like this before? i fixed a few broken vacuum lines under the hood, and repaired a electrical plug that goes into the trans, but no change. i did get the a/c to start working though. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated..

The '79 300CD is a mechanically controled automatic. There is only the throttle pressure rod that is hooked to the throttle linkage. Obvious is to ck fluid level AND smell.

That car has transmission with EXTERNAL reverse band adjustment.

ON the right (passenger) side of the trans JUST above the kick-down solenoid is the adjustment bolt. The jam nut can come loose & then they simply back out over time.

Replacement of the bolt may be required for correct re-adjustment...the original bolt is a "shear-off" design.

i will check into that bolt you mentioned. the car was hit frim behind and is still damaged. it is possible the original owner was involved in an accident while not having reverse. or the reverse problem was caused by the accident..any thoughts anyone..

reverse

mb doc as usual is spot on with his advice.either the band tabs inside the trans broke or the locknut came loose and the adjustment bolt backed out.you better hope it's the latter.
