A/C Compressor Clutch removal
Compressor is Denso 7SB16C. Vehicle is an ML 320 compressor is same as on W140 chassis.
How to remove? 10mm bolt on front is off. To I need puller, pry off, take off front part then pulley or all at same time. Not sure how to proceed. Any hints? |
There is a puller made for it. Check out AutoZone. I believe the have the puller as part of the tool loaner program.

Have you verified that the compressor isn't shot? |

I have the front part of clutch off, but the pulley is still on and seems stuck. I have removed the snap ring that retains the pulley. I'm going to Autozone tomorrow as advised above for a puller. I've not removed the compressor from the vehicle since I'm doing this job, or at least that's my plan with the compressor installed. |

Yeah, I wouldn't be too thrilled to start prying between the compressor body and pully as the compressor body is aluminum. Keep us posted on your progress. As my coil was "baked", I had to remove the radiator to get clearance to access the coil snapring. I could get the pulley snapring off without doing that though. Best of luck! |
Check this thread, it describes job.
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=164166 I did not remove the coil. I believe I could have removed it with the compressor installed in vehicle. With the ML once you take off the fan shroud there is a lot of room, 6" in front of compressor and that’s with the spring plate and pulley installed. The pulley came off easily this morning without any puller. I sprayed penetrating lube in the area of the shaft last night and that made it fairly simple to wiggle off the pulley by hand. |

I bet I didn't even have 6" with the radiator out! Glad yours went smoothly.:beerchug: |
