W124 "Dual" Headlights (photochops)

PLEASE READ ME FIRST:

This is my first ever photoshop attempt at ANYTHING. They are all crooked and not really to scale. The images I used were taken at funny angles so I really couldn’t do much to rectify that. SO, bottom line, they look horrible.

BUT in lieu of all that I think it gives me a preliminary idea on how it would look.

So here they are.

Aftermarket “dual” headlamps on a 1995 E320 wagon.

Black housing

“Titanium” housing

Chrome

Ultimately the goal is to use bixenon projectors but we're far from that yet.

yikes....just get the 500E Euro headlights man.

Nice job, gives an interesting look that (if real) would get people to do a second look.

lee polowczuk 09-12-2006 09:07 AM

the only one that really works for me is the one with black housing... of course my CE is black.

I would like to get some euros some day.... more for the enhanced lighting aspect.... even with sylvania superstars...the light output is not very strong.

AtlBenz 09-12-2006 08:09 PM

Well the black may appear better because the color hides my horrendous photoshoppery. If I had a black car there wouldn’t be a question. But the sucker is green! Talk about an impossible color to work with :silly: .

What if I color-matched the housing to the green?

I suppose if I did opt for these dual look head lamps, I should go with the black so that I can paint it any color to suit. If I went with chrome, painting over that could be a problem.

No doubt the optics are junk. They would be used as donor bodies for bixenon projectors.

I ran ecode lights (as seen here), with 90/130's no less....hehehe. Definitely an improvement, but not good enough; gotta have that HID :P.

The main goal of the exercise was to determine if the dual-lamp style looked good on W124's. I don’t think its toooo bad.

Twin bulb headlights

Looks too Japanese for me. I rather think that if you have a German car the proper lights are factory Hella. It like the tie doesn't go with the suit.
But it my opinion only and that is why this forum is so much fun.

It makes the car look a lot like its cousin, the Chrysler 300C.

I prefer the chrome

kind of Bentleyesque:stupid:

I just wanted to use the smiley, no offense intended to anyone.

Hella Bixenons Retrofitted

1 Attachment(s)
This was my summer project on my 92 400E thanks to www.2phast.com . HID units E55 Hellas out of a ML320. The base unit for the retrofit is a Taiwanese unit (with horrible light pattern with the stock bulbs) from Ebay. However, it does have the vacumm pods for the Euro light angle adjustment. The units are 94-95 ones (they don't make a version for 86-93) so it leaves a gap between the grille and the lights, hence the eyebrows were installed this past weekend to fill the gaps. Unfiortunately, with the eyebrows installed, neithe r the stock nor the 94-95 wipers fit anymore. The light output, however, is incredible.

There is a black w124 around here with a similar black headlight housing. It looks like absolute garbage. If you're going to go to the round style, get the titanium.

AtlBenz 09-14-2006 04:47 PM

As seen on natural_person’s car, may people went with this headlamp for the retro.

as far as I know, it was the first aftermarket light available. The two things I don’t like about it are:
1) the chrome strip that runs along the bottom of the reflectors and
2) the round projector in an otherwise square headlight just doesn’t flow right to me.

Another option out there are these:

I don’t like for two reasons as well.
1) they bubble out so your wipers wont work anymore, and
2) the split design in the lowbeam section would create an esthetic problem when cutting and fitting a projector.

so really, there isn’t any other option that I know of aside from the double round.

These are the titanium version:

Thus, the reason for my photochoppery and the exercise in deciding what looks good and what doesnt.

Oh yuck. Makes your car look like it took a nightly dose of meth.

I love them in chrome. But to each his own!

that’s was my first thought too. Since these W124s already have large headlights and the E500's have chromy headlights as well. It’s too bad my Photoshop made it look all crazy. But they still may be a bit too bright. I don’t know. Thus the reason for the "titanium" look, more of a subdued chrome (is that an oxymoron?)

if only my wagon was silver or black!
