'93 190e rumble during acceleration

Hi there - My 1993 190e has developed a pretty serious rumble in the last few months. When accelerating it rumbles like something is out of place or bent underneath. My mechanic couldn't detect any driveshaft or u-joint issues (I had it in there for plug wires & brakes). Does anybody have any suggestions? Many thanks!!!

Russ

It seems to be getting worse by the day! Can anybody help?

Thanks!

Russ,

A couple of years ago my wife's '93 190E had the exact same problem. I had replaced the front flex disc on the drive shaft to resolve a clanking noise when shifting gears, and later a new noise came about that sounds like what you are describing.
I removed the right rear wheel and discovered that the Rear Sub-Frame Mount was defective. There are two mounts on each side, a front and rear. Hers was the front mount. I replaced it and the noise stopped.
You might not notice the bad mount just by looking at it, so try lifting up the rear suspension to see if there is any play.

Good Luck,

Dave

Thanks Dave!

I'll check it out tonight!

Could also be the center carrier bearing on the prop shaft. I would recheck the Flex Disks though for excess wear and also check the rear diff fluid level.

Russ,

Additional information...I now remember that after my wife took me for a ride in her car to show me the noise it was making that sounded like it was coming from the right rear, I got out of the car and had her take off from a dead stop and I could hear the noise and see the right rear suspension moving/vibrating.

You might want to try having someone drive the car while you are on the outside listening and watching for something abnormal.

Just a thought,

Dave

190e rumble

my 190e did the same thing and the driveshaft bearing and flex discs checked out ok as well as the rear suspension and then later my trans started to slip badly and then went out . ive had transmissions go out in the past but ive never felt a rumble before one goes . but funny thing is when it started to slip the rumble went away and then the trans went a week or so later even after i added lucas trans stop slip at the very first sign of slippage . so it could be a sign that your trans is soon to go . but check everything els possible .

Thanks so much guys! I won't have a chance to get it into my shop for a few days, but I will check out all of these things. I really hope it's something other than my transmission going, but whatever it takes to keep it going is worth it! This car is amazing!
