IF A C280 Wiring harness is toast (Alot of bare wires) what else might be damaged???

Hi All,

I was looking for a thread that could tell me what components of an engine might be trashed if a wiring harness lost virtually all it's insulation?

Anyone got any ideas?

Actually, theoretically, the OVP is supossed to prevent any ancilary damage to other components.

What makes you think there is something else damaged?

I don't know if there would be any link. But strangly enough, when my engine wireharness went...my car had some strange power surge happen also. It killed my head light bulbs...both had to be changed, and it also fried my after market amp. But i don't know if the harness really caused the surge, but i had exposed wires breaking aswell on my harness.

Replace it and be done with it.
You can do it yourself.
Just match everything up with the old one.
If you are half mechanically inclined, you can do it in a few hours.
Just pay attention.
Peice of cake.

You can do it!

The car has a few other issues, like missing headlights, damaged front bumper, two bad fenders, broken side view mirror housing, and numerous dents from driving in Washington DC for most of it's life, so it's a parts car. I wanted to test the modules, so that I could sell them as "tested good" instead of unknown.

I really can't see things like injectors or sensors going bad, but I could see the module being fried from outputs shorting together.
