Plastic window guide

I ordered a replacement window guide for the rear window in my 190D. Today I tore the door apart to take out the old and put in the new. The part I have doesn't look like the part that is broken, and I can't figure out how it can work. The old part has the same rectangular piece that slides into the channel at the bottom of the window. But the old part also has a flat metal plate and then a gray plastic piece that the cables attach to. How are the regulator cables supposed to attach to this new piece? I can't find any other part associated with a 1984 190D. Is this the wrong part, or am I missing something?

I just did the same thing in my 86 300e...

The cable goes thru a spring looking "thingy" that goes in between the plastic and the metal pieces. I am sure it should be inside your door...Look for it. I think ou don't have the right part...

There were two cable ends from top and bottom with springs on each one. They were compacted and stuck together in the yellow greasy area of the gray plastic part in the top picture.

The gray part broke in half.

I don't know how to find the right part, as all of the online MB sites only list this white part.

If the spring is still intact...

you can put it back together (in the greasy area). The plastic and the metal part snap together...Just turn it 180 degrees and bend the tips of the metal portion inwards for extra grip. Once you turn it in place you will know what I mean...If you can not figure it out, as last resource, check the other door and see how it is put together.
