Please file a complaint with the NHTSA if your car has this issue and is not covered

If your Mercedes has or had a defective cluster and is not covered under this recall PLEASE file a complaint at www.NHTSA.gov.

I spoke with the NHTSA investigator this morning and he told me that at this time there is no talk of widening the recall. However, if he receives 4 or 5 complaints that vehicles not within the current VIN range are affected they will look very hard at widening it.

It only took 7 complaints (per the NHTSA report) to initiate the first recall. Mercedes claims they have covered all defective units because the 7 complaints had build dates that fell within the recall range. 7 is not a big enough sample because many of us are left out in the cold here.

PLEASE FILE A COMPLAINT - You can also contact ALi at the NHTSA 202.366.7021 and speak directly to him. Ali performed the investigation and is aware of the details.

Thanks..

UPDATE - ALL 2000-2006 S and CL Clusters now covered

Is the CLK considered in the CL Class ???

95s420 12-04-2006 01:13 PM

Sorry, CLK is not included as it is a C-class chasis and the CL is an S class chasis.

Johnhef 12-04-2006 01:16 PM

if you just have pixels out in the clock or temp display, you can either send your cluster out to be repaired or replace the whole thing.

moderndata 12-06-2006 12:00 PM

Where do I send it to ??

Carson357 12-06-2006 02:38 PM

i just called mercedes at 1-800-367-6372 and the agent i spoke with said that if you have had the cluster replaced at your cost in the past, either at mercedes or an independent shop they will reinburse your cost for that repair. they will need to see all applicable invoices and see the car to verify correct part was installed. she said to contact your local dealer to start the process

info on 140 recalls ?

Does any one in the forum have information on recalls for WDB140 S500 and S600"s ?

Chris Pok 11-08-2007 12:22 AM

I have a 2001 E430 the cluster just keeps getting worse. Time is down to 3 littel lines and the center section is starting to dim.
ANy hope this will expand to other models?? I will contact NHTSA.

Friend of mine is driving a 1995 C220. Gauges don't "wake up" until after several minutes of driving. Engine temp works properly, but the speedo and tachometer just stay at zero for a while.

Same problem? Obviously not in this recall... but would that be worth reporting?
