Central Locking System part interchangeable? (s320 s500) 1995 cars?

Hey,

I was wondering if the 1995 S320 Sedan central locking system (that goes behind the passenger side rear seat) will work on a 1995 S500 Sedan. I called the MB dealership and they said it changes with VIN number but I wanted to make sure that a 1995 s320 sedan central locking system pump will work with my 1995 S500 sedan.

Thanks

If you have access to a GOOD parts man, as him to look it up by model not VIN and compare the 320 and 500. Chances are it'll work. May depend on accesories, main being the ortho seats, also the vacuum operated fold down head rests. What's "the deal", you have a used one available or what?

Hey Thanks. Someone on the board is selling one to me so I was going to go ahead and order it.

My s500 has the seat headrests that fold.

The reason I am purchasing is because the locking isn't working with the key or keyless entry. It has to be opened manually.

The part # he gave me is one digit off of what mine is.

s320's part #:140 800 23 48
s500's part #140 800 28 48

Also, the seller said HIS is made in france? I thought it should be made in germany?

any more info would be appreciated because I dont have access to someone who can look it up for me.

the work you did on the 948 is impressive

Thanks!

I'm afraid that since you have the "fancier" car that this pump might not have all the ports you need. Maybe not though. More afraid if you have the fancier "Ortho" adjustable seats. Country of origin I wouldn't sweat. The 2 cars are the same years? Can you maybe talk him in to sending you the pump and pay him if it works with your car, otherwise you return it with 10 bucks for his troubles? Plus some shipping money?

Do not worry about the degree of fanciness of the ortho seat. The
seats gets only one line of pressure tube each and a third
to a pressure reservoir. (the different bladders are operated
by valves that allow various pressure to enter according to
the dial set. No electronic). Here is my S320 1998 pump;

The lumbar lines are emerging from the connector-bar seen
at the left in the image.

You may have to take the car to Mercedes to have
the pump being told which extra equipment you have (like lumbar).

Before that, I would make sure that the pump actually gets
an electric signal to open/close the doors...

Pse pump

The lock /unlock/lumbar/headrest(if you got them) and aux vacuum come from the pump under the passenger rear sear. The later pump does not have the manifold and distribution is handled thru various splitters. its not a big thing but if you look it up on Phils' site he shows the various couplers and plugs. This was done so the pump could be used in universal applications.
The one next to the gas tank in the trunk is the "close assist" pump the one that pulls in the doors and trunk lid. I would check those #s they seem to be awfully close to the closing assist # 140-800-08-48

Hey,

My closing assist pumps work fine. Just my locking system is messed up. The doors won't unlock with the key or keyless entry..Have to manually do it from the passenger side and pull open the driver side door or other doors. I'm pretty sure its the central locking system problem.

Also the trunk is affected b/c of bad cls pump.

I just wanted to make sure that the parts are the same and interchangeable.

Thanks for the tip. If anyone else knows for certain, I'd appreciate it.

I had the exact same problem with my '97 S320 and solved it by replacing the pump under the rear seat passenger side. The best price i found was at tis site....www.mercedes-benz-parts-direct.com

I was able to disassemble the unit removed the electric motor which needed brushes. I found the exact motor on the net but the dealer refuse to sell retail, only in quanities of 1000+. I have received and installed the unit, it is a BOSCH unit (i don't have their part number here now but i can get it for you if you like). BTW, i paid $321....

Good luck
