How do you take the airbag out? This is for a LHD 93 300SD -

Turn ignition key to "0" position.
Unclip and cover Negative battery terminal.
Remove floor mat in front passenger's foot space.
Unscrew and remove foot rest.
Disconnect Red (X11/13) airbag test coupling/plug connector.
Open glove compartment flap.
Remove the 4 clips with screwdriver.
Push sides of glove compartment insert together a little and remove.
Detach connection to glove compartment light.
Remove the 2 screws on lock [looks like a hook under the airbag].
Detach plug connector on front passenger's airbag unit.
Loosen the 4 nuts on bracket for front passenger's airbag.
Remove front passenger's airbag unit through glove compartment opening.

Installation notes -

Only the complete airbag unit is considered to be a spare part.
The airbag unit must not be treated with grease, solvents or other cleaning agents.
The airbag unit must not be exposed to temperatures in excess of 100°C (212°F) , not even temporarily.
The airbag unit is highly sensitive to shocks. If it is dropped from a height in excess of 50 cm (1.6 ft.) onto a hard surface it may no longer be installed. Instead it should be returned to the Sindelfingen factory in special transport packing.
Before installing the airbag unit check that the ground cable has been disconnected from the battery, the terminal covered and the ignition key set to position "0".
The plug connectors must engage audibly.
The "SRS" warning light must go out after approximately 4 seconds.

You could buy a cover or even a whole airbag assembly off of a salvage car. Try shopping around for parts prices as many dealers enjoy burning their customers with high prices for dealer only parts.
