1988 450SL trunk lid will not open
 

The trunck will not open when I turn the key and press the button to unlatch the trunck lid.
Is this a mechanical latch that is stuck, or is it an electrical problem? What would be the recommended method for me to get the truck open?

is this a 78 450sl or an 88 560sl?trunk latch is mechanical with vacuum conn for lock.if you are trying to unlock make sure that you first turn key counter clockwise and then push button in.

If I recall correctly, there are three lock functions in the trunk latch.
#1. Mechanical key lock.
#2. Vacuum lock actuator.
#3. Electric dead bolt totally controlled by the alarm module.

If the battery goes dead and/or alarm module fails or is removed, the dead bolt locks closed, and the key or vacuum actuator will not open the trunk.
