1988 300e with #4 code
 
I have a hard starting 300E,you have to depress accelerater to start,dies at idle occassionally.check engine light is on with #4 code,any suggestions?

I didn't know a 1988 model threw codes.

My CEL came on when my OVP went south. At the time my car would start and die...

code 4 is the air flow position indicator, went thru volt test and ohm test all good also checked at the ecu and at wiring plug ,all good

you must really check out the "normal" causes of this problem -- bad idle control valve hoses, bad boot between air flow meter horn and throttle body, OVP relay, fuel pump relay, etc.

Any air leaks between the air flow meter and intake valves (including worn valve guides!) will cause starting and idling problems on KE-Jet systems.
