The temp reading is high. The fans should kick in way before 110-c. Your close to the danger zone of ruining your engine. The first thing to do is replace your thermostat. Then see what kind of results you get. If the fans are kicking in too late then the temp sensor of fan relay is at fault. You should be operating below 90-c on the highway and a little higher in traffic if you have the a/c on.

Is 90-100 deg too hot?
My 1984 300SD typically runs between 90 and 100 deg, but often right at 100 deg C. I've seen the needle jump occasionally, and when it does, it drops perhaps 5 degrees. This makes me suspect a slightly intermittent electrical contact somewhere. My coolant level is fine, at least in the overflow reservoir. Should I be concerned? I'm not worried, at least not yet; this car has been very reliable. I just don't want to smoke the head or anything.

80-100C seems like the normal operating range for MBZ.
Water Wetter from Redline will drop your coolant temp. some if you are really concerned. Many diesel-heads use it. I have been using it in gas engines for years. Gary |

According to MB CD the aux fan on 140 should be kicking in
at 100C at low fan speed and spin at high speed when temp. reaches 115C. Aux fans come on at higher temretures than most people think. On W124 it happens at 107 C

94 degrees is just about normal.
Perfection ought to be 93.26879 to the nearest point ... JUST KIDDING ![]()
