want to "flush" - is Delvac 1300 acceptable for a flush, or do I NEED Delvac 1 Syn?
 

97 C230, 134k. Just wanted to make sure she's all clean. All seals and gaskets (incl head) done at 80 (2 yrs ago). Have run M1 15w50 ext. life with 5k change intervals since then - 54k miles ago.

Think Dino Delvac will do the job over 3k?

Any synthetic has better detergent qualities than any dino oil.

What makes you think you need to clean the interior of the engine? You are changing the oil too frequently for synthetic anyway!

Keep using the Mobil 1 --you don't need Delvac 1, it's designed for diesels and has soot suspending characteristics you do not need. Gasoline engines don't produce enough soot to foul the oil. Mobil 1 10W40, 15W50, or 5W40 will be fine. Do NOT use any of the 0Wxx oils, they dont' have enough hot sheer strength to satsify MB standards.

I disagree with his comments about brake fluid flushing, though. Brake fluid is NOT in a 100% sealed environment. Water does work its way into the system over time and you do need to flush the system of the moisture - not to mention the small rust particles that develop throughout the system.

However, if you've been changing your oil as you said (Mobil 1 every 5k) then flushing your oil system is as useful as brilloing a spotless pan.

Quite a good article there, and I was not under the opinion that water was the sole/major contributor to brake fluid contamination and systemwide corrosion. I always believed it had to do with the brake fluid itself breaking down over time, and its inability to prevent corrosion. It appears the latter half of that is definetly the case, and the former isn't because the fluid itself goes bad but rather that it becomes contaminated.

No your wasting your time, worry about other things.
