Car Died on the Road Today
The engine suddenly went dead while at an intersection. It cranked but wouldn't restart. While waiting for my tow, I cranked it again and it started and ran smoothly, but only idled for a couple minutes before it suddenly cut out again. After that it wouldn't start at all.
Its now sitting at home in my driveway and I'm wondering if any of those symptoms sound familiar to someone before I start my own diagnosing. |
What kind of car? I don't enable sigs if it's in yours...
Might start with checking out the FPR and jumpering it the next time the car dies. |
FYI, FPR = Fuel Pump Relay. And I sencond that notion.
|
Oh yeah, sorry for using abbreviations. Fuel Pump Relay...
|
Do M116 / M117 engines have crank postion sensors?
If so, the CPS could be at fault. |
Its a 380SE, and the FPR is the first thing I will check. Are there any trick I shoud know?

agree,fuel pump relay. jump pins 87 & 30.

Here's my experience:
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=155624&highlight=fuel+pump+relay+jumpered Same issue and the fuel pump relay was the cause. You can resolder yours and make it good again. In my case the PO had done it years ago and it finally let go once again, so I just broke down and bought a new one from Phil. |
Awesome! I jumped the pins and it ran. Out of curiousity, I opened the FPR case and saw a cold solder point, so i resoldered it. Plugged it in, and its good as new! Thanks all for making this a record fast repair. I'm keeping my jumper wire in the glovebox, just in case.
