126 trunk will not open!! Help....

1986 300 SDL is the car. It did this a while ago and just healed on it's own so I forgot about it, but now the problem is back and permanent. I have searched the forum and found a lot about this but still can't open the sucker. I can't find the "magic" cable under the seat. The key works the trunk lock fine and unlocks the rest of the car as well. It's that other lock off to the left of the main one that does not release. Some say it's part of the alarm. My alarm is disconnected and the trunk still worked after I did that so I don't think so. I have tried all combinations of unlocking and locking from all the doors etc. Assuming I get it open how can I make it so I never have this issue again?? Thanks.

Had the same car with same problem...

I don't think there is a 'magic trigger' anywhere to open the trunk. Only the trunk button does the job.

If you've played with locking/unlocking, either the trunk is a)staying locked or b)the linkage is misadjusted.

I found a way to make my 'misadjusted' linkage work once, which allowed me to get into the trunk:

Take a 1' piece of 2x4 and hold one end on the trunk button. Hit the other end hard with a sledge hammer (watch your fingers and the trunk lid.. don't hit it!) I put a thick folded blanket over the trunk lid just in case.

Somehow the combination of pushing the trunk button and vibration from the hammer moving the linkage opened the trunk. This worked for 2 weeks until I was able to get the linkage fixed, so I know it wasn't a one time thing.

I know it's a stab in the dark, but give it a shot. Don't worry about hitting it with a hammer.. believe me, your car is like a tank and you can't bend it no matter how hard you try!

Now imagine the look on people's faces as I come to the parking lot after work, open the back door, and get my sledge hammer/wood to open the trunk. Total redneck but it works!

Thanks for the tip. I got the trunk open and after inspecting the situation i simply removed the striker for the "electric" lock. Not the thunk only is locked by the manual locking mechanism operated by either the vacum pump or the key!! It took a minute and will never leave me locked out again.
