Question Brakes

'92 300SE. I get some shimmy in the steering wheel when slowing to a stop from speeds in excess of 50mph. I've not tested it hard, so I don't know if the problem gets worse with hot brakes vs cold.

In my US-made car, this is usually an indication of either warped rotors, or inconsistent friction between the disc and the pads due to uneven friction material deposits on the discs - usually a result of poor break-in methods after new pad installation.

I'm thinking about the following:
1) Check of all front-end components for wear. This includes ball joints, tie-rod ends, drag link, bushings and rims/tires.
2) Front-end brake job - surface rotors (replace if below spec) and new pads.

Are there good sources for aftermarket brake pads & rotors, or should I stick with MB-OEM parts?

Suggestions are appreciated.

If you are looking to service rotors, II would just replace them. It's not much more, and you are guaranteed that the rotors will be right. I would deffinately consider this on the front, as there is more work up there than just a simple pull-off. Just my $.02
