What type of transmission fluid

Hi folks!

One more question, I'd like to change my transmission fluid on my '87 300e but I don't know what type of transmission fluid to buy. I can't believe that the only type of fluid I can use is the $11/qt MB stuff - say it isn't so.

Thanks!

Bob

Dexron type 3 will do the job..if you want to go higher then Mobil 1 ATF is much better.

Do you extend the service interval with Mobil 1?

I have read in the W124 "owners bible" that synthetic fluid will not be good for transmissions that are of that vintage.

Can't they use Dexron II or III?

In any case, your vintage is free to use non-MB fluids. It's only the "electronic" trannies of ca. 1996 and later that need the liquid gold (also known as Dr. Z's secret profit formula).

PS Who will create a Dr Z smilie?:sombrero: :disguise: :xmas:

I use mobil 1 on both of ours.... i figure the cost per mile isn't much different than the regular stuff..since you keep it in for 30k miles.

Extend beyond 30K miles? Why?

I wouldn't. Wondering if anyone does.
